From both kij and dorky:
The problem with Livejournal is that we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. Hence, I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don’t know about you.

Our neighbors having extended, expletive-filled arguments at the top of their lungs on summer evenings.
Headed out to look at two other places tomorrow, both in the Mount Washington/Pikesville areas. Here's hoping.

Ganked from [ profile] alivemagdolene.  I found this to be a surprisingly good test.

Your result for The 3 Variable Funny Test...

the Wit

(52% dark, 38% spontaneous, 21% vulgar)

your humor style:

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.

I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer.

Your sense of humor takes the most thought to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

You probably loved the Office. If you don't know what I'm
talking about, check it out here:

Last night, on voicechat in WoW:

Mage: Have you seen Star Trek yet?

Shaman: No, not yet.

aura: You really should, it's great.

Shaman: I know, but I'm kind of hesitant to see it with my wife.

Mage: Why?

Shaman: Uh...well, have you ever heard of slash fiction?

aura: (barely repressing snorts of laughter as I recall what I've been reading the hell out of for the last three weeks)

Oh, you poor gentlemen, you have no idea.

Two things: first, if anyone has a Dreamwidth code they'd be willing to part with, I'd love to have one.

Second, the Eight Facts About Yourself meme. Did it back in the day when it was 25 facts about yourself; that version is over yar (under flock). The lovely [info]simmysim told us eight facts about herself in an alternate universe, which was very cool and reminded me of something I'd written a while back, when a friend of mine on Facebook attempted to start an alternate version of the "25 things" meme. It didn't gain much traction outside our immediate circle of acquaintances, but I gave it a shot. And went a little nuts. Here's the note, from February 19, 2009:

Twenty-Three Random Facts About Me That Are Totally False

Just looked at the clock and realized I am up at 2:30 AM writing involved analyses of superhero films.

Unfortunately, I can't pin this on booze. Ummm...I'm going to blame this on overconsumption of Coke and Pringles. And sunspots! sunspots are at fault as well.

First: Kings of Leon, "Sex On Fire". This song makes me think of Steve and Tony making out (especially Tony).

I spent a really sad amount of time laughing at this and related videos tonight. How could I have missed this?!

She finally lured him out with Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan from the 1975 Cincinnati Reds.

I need to watch Ellen more frequently.

OK, so WaPo has an article about the new book "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" (link might require free registration). Cool, cool, I can totally dig me some zombies in my Austen; got to go pick that up in paperback. And then I see the last two lines of the article.

As for Grahame-Smith, he reportedly has signed a princely deal for two more "historical" books. The first has no announced release date, though it does have a title:

"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter."

I need this now.

I urge you to peruse the offerings over at technophile's one-sentence porn meme. Ha ha ha! Microporn.

If you're a Steve/Tony fan, your life will be incomplete until you take a look at this one in particular. (WARNING: WHEN YOU READ THIS FIC YOUR HEAD IS LIKELY TO POP OFF FROM SHEER HOTNESS. PLEASE TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS. THANK YOU.)

I was sitting here contemplating the depths of shitty behavior to which some Internet-folk can descend, and getting both pissed off and really bummed about it. So I started to read webcomics instead. C'mon, everybody, have some superhero spam from Joe Loves Crappy Movies!

You know that meme that's going around?
Totally stole it.

The rules: Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first
line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first
line of the twenty-first is the title.

Woke Up This Morning, Got Yourself A Gun

I am not afraid of anything in this world
I come from down in the valley
Confutatis maledictis*

I'm bringin' sexy back

You see the world in black and white
You only live twice

Come on, my star is fading
Where do I take this pain of mine
Drink up, baby, down, are you in or are you out
Here now don't make a sound
Take you there

All is quiet on New year's Day
Put on my blue suede shoes

You are my angel
O come, o come Emanuel

Down at the courthouse they're ringing the flag down
I'm in the sky tonight
Father of mine, tell me where have you been
For being a drunken lush and bad as hell
Pay close attention, don't listen to me from now

*When the wicked are confounded

Mmm. Smells like angst! Angst, and utter confusion.

In an upcoming interview with Katie Couric to be aired this week, Sarah Palin is unable to name any Supreme Court Case other than Roe v. Wade.

The Rules: Post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic, to your lj. (Any decision, as long as it's not Roe v. Wade.) FListers, please take the meme to your ElJay to spread the fun.

First off: I had no idea there were so many interesting United States Supreme Court cases.

Second off: After much deliberation...I choose you, New York Times Co. v. Sullivan! It established the "actual malice" standard for libel, in which you can only consider a statement libel (and thus sue) if the statement was made with "reckless disregard of whether it was false or not". It also ended up saving Mike Wallace's butt early on in his career (see Westmoreland v. CBS).

From [ profile] runenklinge , who let me play (and gave me a letter).

1. Open your unsorted images folder, or if you don't have one, any other images folder.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Find the first three images that begin with that letter, and post them, whatever they are. Give the name they're saved under.

The letter is I, as in iodine.
